
ULTIMATE EVEREST Grade: B Duration: 14 - 20 days Max. altitude: 5420m We fly to Lukla and steadily ascend to Namche Bazaar. Here we visit the homes of our Sherpa guides before following the Dudh Khosi Valley to the alpine yak pastures of Gokyo.Camping beside the serene waters of Dudh Pokhari, we prepare for our first challenge climbing Gokyo Ri (5360 metres), where we gain clear views of Cho Oyu (8201metres), and Makalu (8481 metres).Leaving Gokyo, we cross Cho La (5300 metres) for unrivalled views of Everest (8848 metres) and Lhotse (8511 metres) before descending towards the Everest Base Camp. From the nearby summit of Kala Pattar (5623 metres) we marvel again at the summit of Everest - more than 3000 metres above and identify some of the classic routes that have been followed to the world's highest peak.We then trek down valley to the monastery at Thyangboche and camp beneath Ama Dablam (6856 metres) before completing this challenging circuit of the Everest region.The December departure may divert from Cho La and contour around Tawetse before ascending to the base of Everest. |
