
MUSTANG The Ancient & Forbidden Kingdom GRADE: A DURATION: 16 - 26 DAYS Max. altitude: 5400m. The legendary region of Mustang in north-central Nepal is a geographic extension of the Tibetan Plateau, a windswept mountain realm harboring one of the last authentic remnants of Tibetan culture. Its traditional ways have remained virtually untouched by the outside world. Only in 1992 was Mustang opened to trekking groups. The splendor and tradition of old Tibet have been preserved here, in the 16th century monastery of Tsarang and the ancient walled fortress-city of Lo Manthang. You fly in and out of Jomsom to trek for 15 days through Mustang's magnificent landscapes, visiting the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath on your return. The route travels up the Kali Gandaki River, the world's deepest river gorge, following an ancient trade corridor to Tibet. * The government has recently made the announcement of opening upper part, north which can be visited as a day excursion to Namgyal, Thingar, Chosar, Nyiphu, Gharpu and towards Luri Gompa. 13 days permit is necessary.Extra cost for 10 days permit USD 700 / 13 days USD 910 per person with additional Liaison officer allowance is necessary fees. |
